Home sweet home


I'm home now and exhausted. I had a really great visit in sunny California (while it snowed here in Dallas). Sadly, I forgot my camera :(. But here's a picture my honey took last Sunday on our trip to New Braunfels, Texas. Have a good week. Night night.

I have to tell you three things...

This is one of the best things that has happened to my mouth.
If you don't have one, get one. It's a $10 miracle worker.


(and you already know my other favorite).


I ate black licorice last night. And I kinda liked it. First time ever!





And I leave for California Wednesday morning!!! I can't wait to see my family & friends (esp. my Monkey Boy). I mean, wouldn't you miss this face:

Lately Recipes

I'm a monthly subscriber to Martha Stewart Living and each issue includes four recipe cards. Some easy and tasty (and some not so much). I've made both of these recipes recently:

Roasted Carrots
I LOVED this simple method of roasting carrots (delicious!) and though I had the feta, I added it to my fish instead of the carrots. The natural sugar in the carrots caramelized the edges and that taste by itself needed no help.




Lentil & Bulgar Soup
This soup was just okay. Other than a boost in your self esteem (because you know you just ate something really healthy), this soup tasted very boring. After the salt and pepper and little bit of vinegar it was still flat. If you find any ways to spice it up, please pass them along.




What veges have you had success roasting? I'm so curious about which ones turn out really well!

It works for me.




As most of you bloggers know I like sweets, in abundance. And every other afternoon (okay almost every afternoon) I get a craving for a small something sweet, like half a cookie (okay a whole cookie), a sweetened drink, or a frozen yogurt. Today it was a bottle of peach tea. But here's what I've been substituting. Sparkling water. And it works. I know, you're like "Whatever. When I want a cookie, fizzy water ain't gonna cut it." That's exactly what I would think too. But I challenge you try it, just one time. Yesterday I drank two bottles of Perrier (my least fav of the two) and -350 calories later, I avoided my craving for frozen yogurt.

And now I sit here fully content with my S. Pellegrino. In lieu of that sweet peachy tea. Craving curbed.

Occasionally...

I like it when my food goes bad quickly.



It reminds me that food should shoudn't last very long. And my choices should be fresh and healthy. There are only a few things that I think God intended to have a long shelf life. And thanks (but no thanks) to genetic engineering & preservatives, most of what's out there has a ridiculously long shelf life.

Case and point.
6 months.
